Paunero House

Central courtyard from the living room

Area: 300 m2
Status: built
Year: 2000
Location: Martinez, Buenos Aires
Argentina

This house between party walls is organized around a permeable internal courtyard, articulating the spaces of the two levels. The party walls serve as support for two large wooden volumes, where one of them, the library, is separated from the concrete slabs, creating a double-height void that houses the circulation and lets light into the first floor. The verticality of this central space and the courtyard is contrasted by a horizontal metallic volume on the upper floor, which houses the services. The house is thus configured around a unifying courtyard, which emphasizes the relationship between the levels through contrasting architectural elements.
